Since we haven’t talked about JLo ENOUGH this week…word as come down that her prolific Nuyorican Productions company is in talks to produce a Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? feature starring the educational game-cartoon icon Carmen Sandiego…and that Jennifer Lopez herself may pull an Angelina and star as the star.
It’s hard to believe it’s been more than 25 years since the first Sandiego games showed up. Since 1985, the peripatetic adventurer with the multicultural heritage (no one really knows who she is or where she comes from!) has been the basis of computer games, cartoon series, and even a PBS game show. And even though she’s been off the shelf in any significant way for years, it does show you how hungry all of Hollywood—Latino Hollywood included—for a good ol’ fashioned franchise.
So take a look at the (rather quaint) animated opening of the old Carmen Sandiego cartoon show, imagine JLo in a red raincoat and ask yourself—is there a resemblance? Certainly as much as Angelina looks like Lara Croft…
