Demián Bichir to Star in New FX Series, “The Bridge”

Demián Bichir and Diane Kruger

Academy Award nominee Demián Bichir has been keeping busy since his widely hailed performance in A Better Life; he was in Oliver Stone’s Savages last year, recently completely his turn in Robert Rodriguez Machete Kills, and is part of the new Melissa McCarthy/Sandra Bullock action comedy The Heat, opening in June. And now he’s set to co-star in The Bridge, a new cop drama set on the U.S./Mexico border, premiering in Summer 2013.

The press release says the series, already greenlighted for 13 episodes, revolves around two detectives, one from the U.S. and one from Mexico, who must work together to hunt down a serial killer operating on both sides of the border.” The series is placed in El Paso, Texas, and Juarez, Mexico; it’s an adaptation of the international hit Bron, which took place at the Denmark-Sweden border. Bichir will play Marco Ruiz, a homicide investigator for the state of Chihuahua, Mexico, living in Ciudad Juarez. Marco is described as “one of the last good men in a corrupt and apathetic police force that is outgunned by the powerful drug cartels. He’s sharp, charming, observant and painfully aware that his city is in a state of chaos.” He’ll be co-starring with Dianne Kruger (Inglorious Basterds, National Treasure), who plays his U.S. counterpart, a plainspoken, socially awkward detective who’s also very good at her job. A list of impressive guest stars and supporting actors is already being assembled, including Annabeth Gish (Mystic Pizza, Bag of Bones), and Matthew Lillard (Scream, The Descendants).

Filming begins soon; FX is set to premiere the series in June.
