She’s an award-winning actress, a popular voice talent, a successful producer, and an activist…and she just celebrated her 29thbirthday. No question, America Ferrera is a shining example of the brilliant young Latinas who are changing the industry and changing the world.
The star of Ugly Betty and Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants arrived in Washington on this week, alongside the equally impressive Wilmer Valderrama and spoke in favor of the immigration reform bill that’s currently in the Senate.
“My Name is America,” she begins, and spoke not just to Latinos, but “to any American who is out there, who’s ready to join us.” Check it out here, courtesy of AOL.
America’s been a busy young woman. In recent months she’s appeared in End of Watch with Michael Peña, filmed the multi-part WIGS online series Christine, written and directed by Rodrigo Garcia, and reprised her voice work as “Astrid” in the TV series version of How to Train Your Dragon. (She’s supplied her voice for the feature film sequel as well, coming next year.) Next up, we’ll see her as Cesar Chavez’ wife in Diego Luna’s upcoming biopic, Chavez, while producing and co-starring in X/Y, a drama that also features Amber Tamblyn from Pants and Melonie Diaz, who appeared in the WIGS anthology as well.
You can also catch her and her friends on two rebroadcasts of The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants on MTV: Friday, April 19 at 10P and Saturday, April 20 at 2:30P.
