NBC Pulls Longoria’s “Ready for Love” and Replaces it with “Grimm”

Eva Longoria

Well, it seemed like a good idea at the time. Eva Longoria has been working on her matchmaking show Ready for Love for a long time; the theory was to spend less time on the crazies and the on-camera stunts and a lot more on real romance and matchmaking.

But America has voted, and the results are not good. After a disappointing first week, and an even greater slide in subsequent shows, NBC has pulled Ready for Love from the post-Voice Tuesday night schedule. Starting April 30, Grimm will take its place (after a already-planned two-hour Voice) and stay there through season’s end in late May. It’s not quite clear what will happen next Tuesday, April 23, but it’s either RFL’s last appearance or we’ve already seen as much as we’ll see…at least for now. (The fate of the remaining episodes–Saturday burn-off? Online? Never to be seen again?) has yet to be announced.

Besides Longoria’s involvement, two of the three bachelors at the center of the show were Latino. That didn’t seem to have anything to do with the lackluster performance; the fact is every network has tried to mount a clutch of dating shows to duplicate ABC’s success with The Bachelor and its spin-off, but no one’s had any long-term success (compared to the singing and dancing competitions, where plenty of the Johnny-Come-Latelies have seen some significant success).

Regardless, Longoria’s still got plenty on her plate. She’s exec producer of Lifetime’s Devious Wives, premiering in June; she’s filming the border-war drama Frontera with Michael Peña and Ed Harris, and she’s producing a documentary called Food Chains that features, among others, Dolores Huerta and Hilda Solis. Not to mention her snack food commercials…

More on the future of Ready for Love if and when it’s announced.
