Jon Seda Joins the Chicago P.D. (at least on NBC)

Jon Seda as Antonio Dawson Chicago PD

Jon Seda has been working steadily in Hollywood for twenty years now, and though he’s turned in some powerful performances, he has yet to take center stage. Maybe that will change as his character on NBC’s Chicago Fire moves to the new spin-off Chicago PD, premiering this fall.

Actually, Seda’s first passion was to be a championship boxer. He was even a runner-up in the New Jersey Golden Gloves back in the early 90’s and he even played a boxer in his first co-starring role Gladiator, back in 1992. He appeared in Homicide: Life on the Street back in 1993, in Selena in 1997 and in a string of less-than-successful TV series including UC: Undercover, Kevin Hill, and Close to Home. He’s probably best remembered for his work in Oz, Third Watch, and most recently an intense portrayal in multiple episodes of the now-departed Treme. Last year he showed up in Chicago Fire as Detective Antonio Dawson, and now Dawson’s moving over to Chicago PD.

Chicago PD is waiting in the wings, along with many of the seventeen new programs that NBC has greenlighted. It’s already in production; given its connection to one of NBC’s few actual successes, Chicago Fire, you can expect to see it at the front of the line for midseason replacements.
