Big movies, crazy movies, and serious films, all with Latinos in key roles premiering on Friday
It’s an interesting snapshot, in a way: look at just how wide and deep the roles of Latinos in feature films have become:
Yul Vázquez is part of Tom Hanks’ new action picture (and rumored Oscar bait) Captain Phillips, the story of the brave cargo ship men vs. modern-day pirates.
Freddy Rodríguez is part of the all-star cast in CBGB, a blockbuster portrayal of the most happenin’ punk-rock scene of the 1970’s, also opening wide.
Eduardo Noriega, whose spent his career making small, smart films is part of the cast in Sweetwater. The story: “In the late 1800s, a fanatical religious leader, a renegade Sheriff, and a former prostitute collide in a blood triangle on the rugged plains of the New Mexico Territory.” Ed Harris and January Jones star in this limited release.
We talked about Ghost Team One a couple of days ago right here, and today’s the day you can see this scary, sexy comedy in select theaters, on demand, or digitally. And is still stars Latino newcomers and up-and-comers Carlos Santos, J.R. Villarreal, Fernanda Romero, and Tony Cavalero.
Marlene Forte (TNT’s Dallas) is part of a little movie called My Last Day Without You. The movie is about more than one love story that take place in Brooklyn, NY and it stars Sleepy Hollow’s Nicole Beharie. You can catch up with Marlene here on Se Fija! YouTube Channel.
And finally, of course, there’s Machete Kills, the long-await and equally over-the-top sequel to Robert Rodriguez’ Machete, starring Danny Trejo as the legendary assassin and just about every other Rodriguez-related Latino actor in Hollywood, from Sofía Vergara to Antonio Banderas to Alexa Vega to Michelle Rodriguez. We’ve got some behind-the-scene footage over on the Se Fija! YouTube Channel. See it before or after this popcorn-fest.
