Back in April, Deadline.com announced that Academy Award nominee Demián Bichir , star of A Better Life and the cop-drama The Bridge on FX, would be directing his first film in 2013: Refugio. It’s a strange and challenging film about “a young dreamer who’s born in the circus and embarks on a search to find his long lost true love.”
As written, the film follow that dreamer through various points in his life, where he will be portrayed by a series of actors, including Demián Bichir himself, though the majority of screen time will go to Demian’s nephew, Jose Angel Bichir. Now Bichir has announced that Eva Longoria will co-star, as a “horse acrobat who joins the circus in Mexico trying to heal a broken heart.” alongside Jorge Perugorría (Strawberries and Chocolate). Stefanie Sherk, Ana Claudia Talancón, Arcelia Ramírez and Ludwika Paleta also star, and Julian Fidalgo will play the young Refugio in flashback scenes. There are Latinos behind the camera as well, including producers Alex Garcia of AG Studios, Itaca Films’ Santiago Garcia Galvan, and Escarabajo’s Bruno Bichir (the director’s younger brother).
Production is just getting underway in Mexico City; a release date hasn’t been set quite yet.
