David Zayas Will be a Regular on George Lopez’ New FX Sitcom

David Zayas sure likes to keep busy. Dexter is barely over after eight seasons, and now Zayas has already joined the cast of Saint George.

Lopez’ new series is shaping up to be far more interesting than expected: more edgy than his successful family sitcom (and it’s hard to believe that was almost ten years ago), and starring some fascinating folk, including Lopez himself, Danny Trejo, and now David Zayas.

The comedy centers on the “chaotic life of a recently divorced working-class Mexican American who becomes a successful entrepreneur.” Lopez will portray a man who “struggles to balance his demanding ex-wife, his 11-year-old son, his overbearing mother who just moved in, and his uncle, as well as his new role as a philanthropist “giving back” by teaching history once a week at night school Zayas will co-star as Junior, Danny Trejo’s son and George’s cousin. Like his “dad,” Junior is “a big quirky and off-center. Both admire the other and take advantage of George’s success and are always brainstorming ways to make money—sometimes legally.” Not exactly the terribly serious cop of his Dexter days.

It’s not like Zayas has been resting on his laurels since Dexter wrapped. We’ve seen him recently on The Following and Person of Interest, among other network shows, and he’s currently film Annie, Helen Hunt’s Ride, and Martin Scorsese’s’ indie, The Wannabe.

Saint George doesn’t have a premiere date yet, but expect to see it early in 2014.
