Al Madrigal is a Big Part of “About a Boy,” Premiering Saturday Night (yes, Saturday!) on NBC

Al Madrigal About a Boy

First it was a book, then a very British movie, and now it’s an NBC sitcom, with Al Madrigal in the middle

We’ve been watching Al Madrigal all over the place–in earlier sitcoms that came and went way too quickly, in his regular and wonderful appearances on The Daily Show, and as a very successful stand-up comic in his own right. In fact, you can see earlier Se Fija! posts here, here, and here.

Benjamin Stockham and David Walton About a Boy

Now he’s in another sitcom, about to premiere in the hottest spot currently available: right after the Ending Ceremonies of the Olympics. It will reappear on Tuesdays at 9P soon.

NBC really is pulling out all the stops for this one. Jon Favreau of Iron Man fame is directing; the producers comes from NBC’s long-running hit Parenthood, and they’re featuring it in the coveted post-Olympics spot. It just might be worth it; the three-minute promo you can see here makes it look pretty charming (though sadly there’s no sign of Al as the best friend and family man.)

Still: something new and maybe even good to watch on NBC. That’s a nice change of pace…
