Eva Longoria Update: Far from desperate

We haven’t talked about Eva Longoria in days…which means we’re way behind. Things are always happening with this super-busy Latina actress/producer/writer/chef/philanthropist; most recently the University of Southern California’s USC Latino Alumni Association and Verizon Wireless will be hosting an evening with Eva Longoria from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, February 11. “If I’ll share anything with the students at USC it is that the best way to empower yourself is through education,” Longoria said recently about the event. “and I applaud all of you for making that step towards your future.”

That, of course, is only a tiny fraction of all the things Longoria has on her plate. Last year the Hollywood Reporter named her “Philanthropist of the Year;” more recently Variety selected her as one of the recipients of their “Power of Women Awards,” the charities she’s worked with most closely include PADRES Contra El Cancer, the Special Olympics, the United Farm Workers, the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, the Dolores Huerta Foundation and the National Council of La Raza. President Obama recently appointed her to the National Museum of the American Latino Commission as well, not to mention “Eva’s Heroes,” the non-profit she founded that helps 12–21-year-old developmentally challenged children and young adults integrate and flourish in society. And then there’s the The Eva Longoria Fund, created with the California Communities Foundation, a platform to raise money for all of the charitable organizations she actively supports. All that in the last eight years or so.

Philanthropist of the year indeed.

And don’t think for a moment that all this charitable work has slowed her acting career. Eva’s already completed at least four or five films that will be premiering in 2012: the drama Long Time Gone, a thriller with Andy Garcia called The Truth, the divorce-comedy Who Gets the Dog, the historical drama Four Kings and Baytown Disco, a comedy-thriller with Natalie Martinez are all slated for 2012 or early 2013 releases. And Longoria’s production company also recently sold The CW a script for a mother-daughter legal drama, Vega vs. Vega, that is awaiting the go-ahead for a pilot. And then there’s the cookbook, restaurant(s) the awards shows, and the family.

And did we mention that Longoria is also currently completing her Master’s degree in Chicano Studies/Political Science? Yeah, that too.

We don’t know if Eva’s exhausted, but we sure are.
