Tyler Posey is part of MTV’s single most successful scripted series ever.
Tyler Posey may not sound like a Latino, but he certainly has the dark good looks; his mixed Mexican/English/Irish heritage serves him well, and now he’s at the center of the cult hit (and horribly named) Teen Wolf, just now renewed for a third season of 24 episodes–twice the number of episodes in its first two go-rounds.
Yes, it’s true, the name of the show is derived from an old, harmless, and fairy funky Michael J. Fox comedy, but that’s where the resemblance ends. There’s nothing particularly funny about this interpretation. In fact, it clearly owes more to Twilight than anything else. Still, it’s a hit. In fact, it’s now the first primetime scripted series on MTV to ever make it past a second season, and the largest episode order in the scripted category that MTV’s ever made.
Posey has been acting since he was six year old, often in those days with his father John Posey, who’s been a mainstay of episodic TV for years. He first showed up on Full House and the original Dallas for guest shots; his resume since is a grand tour of TV over the last decade. In fact, he’s even appeared in Teen Wolf as well (as Dr. Fenris. Fenris, get it? Greek wolf-myth? Kind of the father of werewolves?)
MTV seems to be offering basically the entire first two seasons online; you can check out Tyler and his buddies right here, as well as plenty of behind-the-scenes clips and after-show programming. No wonder it’s doing well.
