They may not be part of the permanent cast–yet–but plenty of talented Latinos have multiline-episode commitments in Fall TV series
It’s one of the hardest to track but–in some ways–most encouraging aspects of the Fall TV season: Latino actors are being cast consistently as ‘guest stars’ or recurring characters in popular series all over the dial.
Just this week, Daniella Alonso began what may be an ongoing role in Revolution, the post-apocalyptic, “where’d the electricity go?” drama on NBC. This model/actress, of Puerto Rican and Peruvian/Japanese descent, has been a Cover Girl cover model, part of the ensemble on the short-lived My Generation, and has had recurring roles in Rizzoli and Isles and Covert Affairs. She’s also done her fair share of horror movies, including The Hills Have Eyes II, The Collector, and Wrong Turn 2.
Over on CBS, Miguel Ferrer returns to NCIS: Los Angeles as Assistant Director Owen Granger–a role that he originated last year, and seems to be returning for the new season.
Most recently, we’ve learned that Aimee Garcia will be appearing in at least two episodes of CBS’ Vegas, with Randy Quaid and Michael Chiklis–this on top of her continuing role in the new season of Dexter on Showtime and her role in the feature-film reboot of Robocop. (She also had a major role in County, a medical drama with Fernanda Romero and Jason Ritter, which may yet see the light of day.)
…and Jon Seda is back on the third season of Treme, continuing his regular role as real estate developer Nelson Hidalgo in the post-Katrina New Orleans drama. When last we saw him, he was stewing in a bar and scheming with his cousin. We’ll see what the new season brings, Sundays on HBO.
There are sure to be more additions and arcs as the season goes on, but so far–with many shows still waiting to premiere–it looks like we’ll be seeing more Latinos on more shows than expected, all across the dial.
