Universal’s 100th Anniversary Collection: 7 out of 25 feature Latinos

Looking for a great Christmas gift for the movie-lover in the family? Here’s a fascinating possibility…

Universal Studios has put together an impressive list of twenty-five films to celebrate its 100th anniversary, and to fill Christmas stockings across the country (actually, it’s a little pricey for a stocking stuffer: slightly more than $200, not including shipping. But 25 classic movies on 25 CD’s? That’s like $8.00 a disk–a pretty good deal.

Best of all, almost a quarter of the classic films, which run the gamut from The Birds to The Bourne Identity, include Latinos in the cast. The Latino contenders include:

Dracula Spanish (1931) (Blu-ray Collection only), Lupita Tovar, Carlos Villarías. The actors in the film were from Mexico, Spain, Argentina, and Cuba.

American Graffiti (1973) Manuel Padilla Jr.

Scarface (1983) Steven Bauer, Miriam Colon, Pepe Serna, Tony Perez, Ángel Salazar, Arnaldo Santana, and may others…even Manuel Padilla Jr.

The Breakfast Club Emilio Estevez

Do the Right Thing Miguel Sandoval, Rosie Perez, Luis Antonio Ramos, Shawn Elliott (Santiago), and a few others.

Jurassic Park (1993) Miguel Sandoval

The Fast and the Furious (2001) Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Noel Gugliemi and of course others in smaller roles.
