Beautiful, Evocative, and Award-worthy “Heleno” Opens (in a limited way) this Friday

Brazilian director José Henrique Fonseca has garnered multiple awards on the film festival circuit for his previous films, including Treason and Man of the Year. This year, Heleno may prove to be an even better gateway to recognition here in the U.S.

Heleno stars Rodrigo Santoro (300, Che, What to Expect When You’re Expecting) as well as Brazilian actresses Aline Moraes and Angie Cepeda in this subtitled beauty–the story of Brazilian-born Heleno de Freitas who conquered the soccer world in the 1940s. In this wonderfully detailed period drama, we witness how Heleno’ fame and fortune grew to new heights while his passion for a decadent life of women and nightclubs threatened his career. Look for mentions in many of the upcoming award competitions…and check out this impressive trailer. It opens in New York for a Oscar-qualifying fun on Friday.
