NBC’s guilty pleasure Smash had a single Latino in the cast last year: Ellis, played by Jaime Cepero. But he was one of the fairly large number of characters that got the axe at the end of the first season, as part of a ‘revamp’ that’s still under wrap. But during this weekend’s Television Critics Association presentation, Smash’ s executive producer Neil Meron said, “Ellis is still alive.” Combine that with what Jamie himself said shortly after his dismissal last year, when he said he still wasn’t sure if his character “would really be gone.” Hmm…
