There’s probably not a Latina actress in Hollywood this side of Jennifer Lopez who doesn’t envy Aimee Garcia. She’s had a heck of a year, and there’s obviously more to come.
It started with a well-regarded pilot for a hospital show called County, where she co-starred with Jason Ritter and a cast full of Latinos, including Emily Rios and Fernanda Romero. It didn’t make it to air…but Aimee sure did.
We saw her as the stalwart but increasingly multi-dimensional sister to David Zayas in Showtime’s incredible Dexter, with some of the strongest Latino actors in TV today…and there’s every indication she’ll be back for the next (and last) season of that amazing season in 2013.
Then, in the midst of Dexter, she began to appear in episodes of the nostalgia/crime drama Vegas, where she plays an (as yet underused) sassy secretary at the 1950s Vegas Police Department, alongside major players like Dennis Quaid and Michael Chiklis.
And as if that wasn’t enough, Aimee just finished four months of filming (where does she find the time) for the reboot of Robocop, set to premiere next year. She even tweeted about it just a couple of days ago: “Tonight was my last night in #Robocop,” she wrote. “I will miss the incredible cast & crew I’ve worked w over past 4 month #UnforgettableExperience.”
And here’s a blast from the not-so-distant past: an interview Aimee did in her hometown of Chicago just five years ago, where she talks about her work on the George Lopez show and her future. Amazing how little she’s changed…and how different things are today!
