Alyssa Diaz is Back for More on “Army Wives”

Alyssa Diaz

You may not know it, but you know Alyssa Diaz. She may only be in her mid-twenties, but she’s been a familiar face on television for most of her life, with her first appearances when she was barely sixteen on The Brothers Garcia and American Family. She did her time in the soaps (As the World Turns) and was a guest star on a dozen different high-end hour-long dramas, including the CSI and Law & Order franchises. In 2010 she had a multi-episode arc on Southland, and the following year she co-starred in the short-lived but well-respected Nine Lives of Chloe King. She’s kept her hand in on feature films as well, with work in Shark Night and Red Dawn; she was also a key player in a post-apocalyptic TNT pilot, The Last Ship that’s still in the hopper

Joseph Julian Soria

And of course, there was Army Wives. Alyssa joined the ensemble as “Gloria Cruz” for the 2012 season, and she’s back for more, along with her on-screen husband Joseph Julian Soria, with new episodes premiering Sunday, March 10. They’ll be rejoining long-time members Catherine Bell and Kelli Davis (among others) and newcomers Brooke Shields and Ashanti, (also among others–many others).

It’s hard to believe Army Wives has been part of the Lifetime schedule for more than seven years already; maybe its hardiness–like Law & Order and CSI before them–is the tradition of a constantly changing set of central characters and situations. But it’s good to see a Latino element in the mix, however belatedly–and good to see it back for a second year in a row.

Check out the new episodes Sundays at 9P on Lifetime.
