Congratulations to Alejandro González Iñárritu for his Oscars for best director, best original screenplay with Armando Bo, Alexander Dinelaris Jr., and Nicolas Giacobone. And for taking the big winner, best picture for Birdman (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance).
And his longtime friend and collaborator Emmanuel “El Chivo” Lubezki won for best cinematography for Birdman.
González Iñárritu is best known for his films Amores Perros, 21 Grams, Babel and Biutiful which was nominated in the category of best foreign film, for 2011. It starred Javier Bardem who was nominated for best actor for the film.
Another interesting note of the evening was that its the second consecutive year that the best director award went to a Mexican-born director; last year being Alfonso Cuarón for Gravity. And Lubezki (Mexican-born) won his second Oscar on his seventh nomination—last year his first win for Gravity.
