Fox is out in front of the other networks this year, premiering the first of its Fall TV series this week. And among the first to be seen: Brooklyn Nine Nine, the Andy Samberg cop-comedy with two Latinas in key roles.
The extended trailer (see below) is actually pretty funny. Samberg is as inappropriate as ever, Andre Braugher offers the best deadpan in television today (from submarine captain to precinct captain in less than a year!), and Stephanie Beatriz, last seen as Sofía Vergara’s weepy and homicidal sister on Modern Family, plays the toughest cop of any gender or ethnicity–Rosa Diaz. (A name change from the pilot, where her character was known as Meghan. No question now: this girl’s one dangerous Latina). And there’s a second Latino character in the show: Melissa Gallo Fumero, best known for her work on One Life to Live, plays Amy Santiago, Samberg’s long-suffering partner.
It looks to be a funny show, and Biatriz is a major part of it. It begins its regular run on Tuesday at 8:30P on Fox. Meanwhile, here’s the extended trailer:
