I thought Criminal was a pretty good film, and Kevin Costner gives a wonderful performance. His character in this film is very different than what we are accustomed to seeing. The story goes like this: in a last-ditch effort to stop a diabolical plot, a dead CIA operative’s memories, secrets, and skills are implanted into an unpredictable and dangerous death-row inmate (Costner) in hopes that he will complete the operative’s mission. And that’s not as easy as it sounds.
It has a story line that’s a bit familiar, but with a new take and some humor that wasn’t expected.
We talked with Costner, who spoke at length about why he took this role and the process he went through. Writer David Weisberg was very frank about the whole process of getting your project through the studios and hoping for the best, and director Ariel Vromen was a lot of fun to listen to, especially since he was directing three other experienced directors and a few hopefuls.
One of the challenges of doing roundtables is that sometimes you have one journalist that dominates the questions; in the audio links you’ll notice it but we got some good stuff for you to listen to.
The other stars of the film include: Gary Oldman, Tommy Lee Jones, Gal Gadot, Alice Eve, Michael Pitt, Jordi Mollà, Antje Traue, Scott Adkins, Amaury Nolasco, Danny Webb, and Colin Salmon. And it was fun to watch them.
