We had our suspicions before. When this intensely handsome and slightly sinister Venezuelan showed up as a Presidential kidnapper in Vantage Point, it seemed possible. We were almost sure when he appeared as the deadly efficient superspy in The Bourne Ultimatum. And his outstanding work as Ernesto “Che” Guevara in The Argentine and Carlos is the mini-series of the same name just made it more obvious.
And now it’s official: Édgar Ramírez is the Greek God of war, Ares, in the mega-huge meta-myth action picture Wrath of the Titans, opening March 30.
Ramirez really is a pretty amazing guy. A soap opera star in Cosita Rica on Venezuelan TV, he impressed Ridley Scott so much the director plucked him up and co-starred him opposite Keira Knightley in Domino back in 2005. It’s been “A” list projects ever since, from the Bourne picture to his amazing work in mini-series…and his next project is Academy Award-winning director Kathryn Bigelow’s big new picture on the death of Osama Bin Laden, Zero Dark Thirty. The guy even speaks five languages.
Wrath looks like the first big kick-ass actioneer of 2012. Don’t believe us? Look at the clip below…and then get in line for tickets.
Pretty amazing…and we have the feeling that Édgar Ramírez is just getting started.
