Jon Stewart of The Daily Show fame recently announced he’d be taking a twelve-week break from “the best f**ing fake news team on television” to direct his first feature, Rosewater. Now he’s announced his choice to star in the thriller: Gael García Bernal.
Stewart has also written the script for the movie, adapted from Maziar Bahari’s 2011 book Then They Came For Me: A Family’s Story of Love, Captivity and Survival. It’s the story of a journalist who leaves who travels to Iran to spend a week covering the country’s presidential elections, and winds up spending 118 days in an Iranian prison. The real Bahari–and the real Bernal–have both been guests on The Daily Show. In fact, Bharai’s appearance on the program was used against him when he was accused of being a spy.
Bernal has had a busy year. He recently starred in Pablo Larrain‘s No and produced Chavez, starring Michael Peña.
