It wasn’t that long ago that writer/director/celebrity in his own right Kevin Smith was talking about leaving the industry entirely. But now he’s knee-deep in a new horror movie that’s going to star–among other–up and coming Latina actress Genesis Rodriguez.
Rodriguez, daughter of Venezuelan singer and actor José Luis Rodríguez‘El Puma’ has already made a big impression playing very tough and very beautiful young women in movies like Man on a Ledge and Identity Thief, and will be seen soon in Hours, the post-Katrina drama also starring Paul Walker and Nick Gomez.
And then there’s Tusk
Kevin Smith has taken on some weird projects in the past, including the bizarre Dogma, the “Jay and Silent Bob” movies and the very grim thriller Red State. Tusk is a little bit of all of the above–a story that Smith himself describes as “unsettling.” It stars Justin Long and Michael Parks in a move about a man.
Yes, the quote was about a walrus suit.
Release dates are far in the future, and shooting hasn’t begun, much less been scheduled. It certainly seems to be a “go” project, though we’ll keep an eye on it. Only one thing is certain: Genesis Rodriguez has no problem taking chances.
