…and David Rodriguez’ full-length feature, Last I Heard, screens prior to the short
HollyShorts, the largest short-film festival in Los Angeles, is kicking off the festivities at the TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood on August 15 with two short films…and one of them is Zero Hour, a film written by Babel and 21 Grams screenwriter Guillermo Arriaga and directed by his protégé Dan Carrillo Levy. Zero Hour stars Camilla Belle and Latin-American star Jaime Camil, and follows a young couple on a trip through the Mojave Desert. Director Carrillo Levy is also a producer and marketing executive, and is currently working on the feature Words With Gods with Guillermo Arriaga.
That’s not all: prior to the shorts screenings, the festival will screen one feature film, David Rodriguez’s Last I Heard starring Paul Sorvino and Michael Rappaport. And among the many challenging (and very international) list of films for the festival, you’ll find Shooting Star(s), from filmmakers Axel Evermann and Daniel Frei, a documentary that follows Johnny Nunez, who was abandoned as a baby and later adopted by a Puerto Rican family, as he overcomes the obstacles imposed by his humble upbringing in Brooklyn to become today’s most prominent Hip Hop celebrity photography.
The HollyShorts Film Festival, which runs from Aug. 15 through Aug. 22, is an annual showcase of films of 30 minutes or less. Tickets are available at hollyshorts.com. You can also watch the opening nigh red carpet festivities live online through the site.
