This weekend, Se Fija! attended Strike Out ALS 2011, the fifth annual fundraiser to cover the continued medical needs of Juan Quintero. Five years ago, Juan was diagnose with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS–what most of us know as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Since then, his whole family and the Latino Hollywood community have rallied around to help gather funds for Juan and for other ALS people in need.
This year’s attendees included Miguel Torres, creator/producer of Encounters, Encounters producer Lorena Alvarado, publicist Madeline Padilla, writer Nancy de los Santos, producer/actor Danny Haro, and of course the entire Quintero family, led by Ernesto Quintero, creative director and owner of Higher Ground Entertainment and his brother, California Highway Patrol officer Rick Quintero and the rest of the family.
It was a great event and an important personal cause. And–like the Quinteros say–it’s events like this that give life meaning. Maybe you should plan to attend next year; you can learn more, participate, and even form a team of your own by visiting http://www.strikeoutalsla.com/
