La Lupe truly was the Queen of Latin Soul, almost from the moment she set foot in the United States from Cuba. And actress/singer Lauren Vélez, probably best known for her portrayal of a flawed and powerful Latina police detective on HBO’s Dexter, seems to possess the uncanny ability to channel La Lupe and her unique performance style.
