On the heels of 17 (yes seventeen) new series greenlighted for the fall and midseason–far more than any other network–the programmers at NBC have also decided to bring forward a clutch of scripted series for the summer only, among them a goofball comedy called Camp and a thriller named Siberia.
Camp is a goofy comedy in the Meatballs tradition (hey, remember Meatballs?) The only slightly recognizable name in the cast is off-the-wall comedian Tom Green, clearly trying to take the mantle of no-account slacker comic from the likes of Bill Murray and Rob Schneider. There are also two Latino names in the cast list: an Argentine actor named Juan Pablo di Pace with virtually no U.S. credits playing “Miguel Santos” and Adam Garcia, an Australian actor of Colombian descent, playing “Todd”
No cast list for Siberia has been made available yet. The plot involves the cast of a reality show that suddenly finds itself in a real-life struggle for survival.
Good for di Pace and Garcia for getting work…but you would think there was enough going on in Hollywood, California that Made-in-the-USA product could be found to fill the summer, especially shows featuring the occasional U.S. Latino.
