Fantastic 4 Trailer Looks Cool!

Fantastic 4The film is a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel’s original and longest-running superhero team, Fantastic Four. And it looks cool to me.

The film premise centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.

The film stars Miles Teller as Mr. Fantastic, Kate Mara as Invisible Woman, Michael B. Jordan as Human Torch, and Jamie Bell as The Thing. And directed by Josh Trank.

Check out the following trailer and commentary videos by producer Simon Kinberg and director Josh Trank discuss their lead actors. — A.O.

Fantastic Four is out August 7.

ANT-MAN **IS** A FIFTIES MONSTER MOVIE

The folks at Vulture Video did an amazing mash-up for Marvel’s newest movie, Ant-Man, and turned it into a classic fifties monster movie, right down to having Vincent Price ‘host’ the trailer. Too beautiful to be real.

The ‘real’ Ant-Man hits theaters July 17. We’ve actually seen it, in an early screening and we can tell you it was FUN!

Four friends find out that their misguided attempt to honor the twenty-year anniversary of a small-town tragedy— the death of the lead actor during a high school play—may have been not the best plan ever.

The Gallows bring four newcomers to feature films: Cassidy Gifford, Ryan Shoos, Reese Mishler, and Pfeifer Brown, who team up with first-time writer/directors Chris Lofing and Travis Cluff.

I’ve always enjoyed my conversations with Kenneth, and this day was no different. It turned out to be a special morning: it was Se Fija!’s fourth anniversary online and the very first interview that I did for Se Fija! was with Kenneth.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with Independent writer/producer/director Kenneth Castillo, here is a little about him: he has built an impressive portfolio over the last decade or more. In 2000 he and his now-wife Karla Ojeda formed a film production company; their first project was The Misadventures of Cholo Chaplin, a re-framing of the Charlie Chaplin silent shorts of the 1920’s and 30’s set in the Mexicano world of the Day of the Dead. Since 2008, Kenneth has written and directed six features, a series of “urban Latino” films under the group name of The Drive-By Chronicles: Sidewayz, Ghostown, and Confessions of a Gangster, Counterpunch and Thou Shall Not Kill (aka La Guapa). Over the years I’ve come to admire his drive and commitment to his craft. He’s always learning and evolving, which leaves me looking forward to his next project(s).

With Marigold the Matador, Kenneth is trying something different. It’s his seventh film and he did all principal photography in seven days. We talked about the film and the crowd-funding plans. Listen in on our conversation.

Aspiring Actress Raquel Pomplun Talks Self/Less

Raquel Pomplun and Angela Ortíz

Raquel Pomplun and Angela Ortíz

We got invited to an evening screening of Focus Features’ Self/Less that was hosted by Ms Pomplun. I got to talk to her about her career plans and thoughts on the upcoming film. With her background as a biochemistry major before becoming a Playmate, then becoming the first Mexican-American Playboy Playmate of the Year, 2013, it was fun to hear her thoughts and love of sci fi thrillers.

This provocative psychological science fiction film opens on July 10, and what I found interesting about Self/Less was the whole idea of being able to transfer your consciousness from one body to another. I know there have been other films with similar takes but this one held my attention. It could have been the venue that helped me to enjoy the film—it took place at the iPic Westwood, which is quite comfy, and the cocktail reception after the screening was full of good conversations.

Listen in on our chat and see if this is a film for you.

Focus Features’ Self/Less is directed by Tarsem Singh (The Cell, Immortals) and it stars Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool), Natalie Martinez (Secrets and Lies), Matthew Goode (The Good Wife), Victor Garber (The Flash), Derek Luke (Empire), Michelle Dockery (Downton Abbey), and Academy Award winner Sir Ben Kingsley.

When I got the invitation to screen the film Dope, I thought, not my demographics and I probably won’t enjoy it. I was wrong. I enjoyed it from beginning to end.

I think it’s an original and smart film perfect for the summer.

Famuyima & Moore

Famuyima & Moore

It’s a film about three high school friends who live and breathe 90s hip hop culture and because of that, they are targets for some.

It has a good behind the scene talent in Forrest Whitaker (narrator) and Nina Yang Bongiovi as producers, writer/director Rick Famuyima, and musician Pharrell Williams is an executive producer too.

Whitaker & Yang Bongiovi

They are some firsts in this film in the young talents in front of the camera—as lead actors are Shameik Moore, Tony Revolori, Kiersey Clemons, Blake Anderson, Quicy Brown, and first time actors in model Chanel Iman, and rapper Kap G.
