“Amor crónico” A Docu-Comedy with Lots of Good Sounds

Amor CronicoI came across a trailer of this docu-comedy while I was checking out some YouTube music. And the wonderful surprise is that I was familiar with the lead actress/singer, CuCu Diamantes. She along with Grammy award winner Andrés Levin founded one of my favorite funk-fusion supergroup Yerba Buena.

Yerba Buena played together for about a decade and released two albums, the Grammy-nominated President Alien (’03) and Island Life (’05), and I have both of them.

The Cuban-born/New York based CuCu Diamantes and the Venezuelan-born Andrés Levin got together with Cuban-born actor/director Jorge Perugorría to make this film—which follows Diamantes as she embarks on a whirlwind tour of her home country. Amor crónico documents the first tour of Cuba by a Cuban-American in the last 50 years. It interweaves glamorous live performances with a fictional romance; the film pays tribute to the history of cinema in surreal fashion. Backed by a high energy Latin soundtrack. The Trailer for Ava DuVernay “Selma” is Out

selma300The first trailer for the Martin Luther King Jr. film Selma is here. The film focuses on a three-month period in King’s life when he campaigned for equal voting rights by leading three protests down a 54-mile highway. This action of his helped turn the tides against segregation.
