Jennifer Lopez Talked to Sam Rubin About her Book “True Love” on the KTLA Morning News

SyFy, Animation, Paranormal, Thriller, Comedy, Romance, All in Theaters Friday

Another weekend of new releases and it’s hard to choose the best, but here are a mix bag of choices for you to pick from: Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar is an adventure in human emotions? Big Hero 6 has something for everyone, Fugly! A comedic experience, The Lookalike—a unlikely romantic comedy thriller, Jessabelle and its paranormal activity and a Christmas rode trip in A Merry Friggin’ Christmas.

1-Interstellar200Interstellar
Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar is one of those movies: so deep and complex and challenging that it’s hard to talk about unless you’ve seen it, and the more you try to explain it the more you risk giving something away and diminishing the experience for first-time viewers. Starring Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Ellen Burstyn, John Lithgow, Michael Caine, Casey Affleck, Wes Bentley, Bill Irwin, Mackenzie Foy, Topher Grace, and David Gyasi.

2-Big_Hero200Big Hero 6
Is a movie for everyone! From Walt Disney Animation Studios, comes Big Hero 6, an action-packed comedy-adventure about a special bond that develops between Baymax (voice of Scott Adsit), a plus-sized inflatable robot, and prodigy Hiro Hamada (voice of Ryan Potter). Other characters voiced by T.J. Miller, Jamie Chung, Damon Wayans Jr., Genesis Rodriguez, Maya Rudolph, James Cromwell, Alan Tudyk, and Daniel Henney.

3-Fugly!200Fugly!
Directed by Alfredo De Villa and written by John Leguizamo. A fictionalized rendering of Leguizamo’s acclaimed one-man show, Ghetto Klown. Leguizamo also stars as Jesse Sanchez, a Latino comic who has a near-death experience that forces him to revisit his personal and professional life. Also starring

Rosie Perez, Radha Mitchell, Griffin Dunne, Yul Vasquez, Tomas Milian, and Ally Sheedy.

5-The Lookalike200The Lookalike
A drug lord has a curious obsession with a youngwoman, and uses family friends to get to her. But her death jeopardizes a major deal, and now his friends have to find a replacement–a lookalike–to fool him. Starring Justin Long, John Corbett, Gillian Jacobs, Jerry O’Connell, Gina Gershon, Luis Guzmán, and Steven Bauer.

4-Jessabelle200Jessabelle
From the producer of Paranormal Activity, Insidious, Ouija and so many others, Jason Blum comes the ghostly tale of Jessabelle. It stars Sarah Snook as Jessie, who returns to her childhood home after a horrific accident only to discover a vengeful spirit that has no intentions of letting her leave.

Directed by Kevin Greutert (Saw 3D & Saw VI) and starring Mark Webber, David Andrews, Joelle Carter, Ana de la Reguera, Larisa Oleynik, Chris Ellis, Fran Bennett, and Amber Stevens.

And with the success of Annabelle and Ouija in the past few weeks we bet the filmmakers are hoping the same for this film. In theaters and On Demand.

6-A Merry Friggin Christmas200A Merry Friggin’ Christmas
This film is full of calamities with a little remembrance of National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. Check out the trailer and see if you want to go see it. One of the nice things in the film is watching the late Robin Williams, Joel McHale, and Lauren Graham inter act with each other. Also starring Clark Duke, Oliver Platt, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Tim Heidecker, and Candice Bergen.

You Want Film Noir? We Got Your Noir Right Here

Film NoirBy B. Munson

Much of what we take for granted in the suspense, thriller, and even horror genres began with film noir, a unique genre of film that began–believe it or not–almost 70 years ago. And if you want to see ten of the very best from that first wave: here you go.

It’s all about the shadows. Not just the (essential) black-and-white photograph and all that gray light. It’s about the shadows in human beings as well: suspicion, greed, broken promises, lust. You know: shadows.

Janet Leigh and Valentin de Vargas Touch of Evil

Janet Leigh and Valentin de Vargas Touch of Evil

Some of these films you’ve probably heard of: Double Indemnity, Touch of Evil, The Gun for Hire. Others may be new to you: The Blue Dahlia, Criss Cross. Doesn’t matter. They are all dark diamonds, and if you love modern-day suspense films, you have got to see these. No! No arguments! You have to! And now you can get the whole set of ten for a ridiculously low price, right here.

The list:
Double Indemnity • Touch of Evil • This Gun for Hire • The Glass Key • Phantom Lady • The Blue Dahlia • Black Angel
The Killers • The Big Clock • Criss Cross

Film-Noir670You simply won’t find a better film noir collection. Period. End of story. So come on: time to step into the shadows.

Here’s the 12 Monkeys TV series trailer… or is it?

It’s right here, recently (and quietly) released by SyFy channel for a January premiere. Watch first, then… let’s talk:

Okay, that’s a trailer. And it has the same name as the Terry Gilliam’s bizarre and beautiful classic. But other than that? What have we got here? Let’s talk about it…

First, to make it clear: we here at Se Fija! and AmityvilleNow Int’l Headquarters and Wine Bistro (weekends only) are Terry Gilliam fanatics. Monty Python, Brazil, even friggin’ Baron Munchausen, we love his stuff. Which is why we were both excited and full of bubbling trepidation at the notion of a television series based on one of his works. And it appears our fears may have been a teeny bit justified.
