Blade Runner 2049 short film reveals what happened in 2036.
Collider is happy to exclusively premiere a Blade Runner 2049 prequel short film “in-world” piece that explains what happened in the world of Blade Runner between the first movie, set in 2019, and this sequel, set in 2049. The short film Nexus: 2036 takes place in the year 2036 and revolves around Jared Leto’s character, Niander Wallace. In this short, directed by Luke Scott (Morgan), Wallace introduces a new line of “perfected” replicants called the Nexus 9, seeking to get the prohibition on replicants repealed. This no doubt has serious ramifications that will be crucial to the plot of Blade Runner 2049.

In January. It had been a while since we had spoken to Genesis Rodriguez and we got to catch up with her at the Winter TCA. She’s on the new ABC series, Time After Time. She said this was a dream role and that her sci-fi geekness was waiting to break out—plus her plans for the near future—finding an indie film to be part of.

The plot: Based on the novel and 1979 movie of the same name Time After Time follows the adventures of famed science fiction writer H.G. Wells as he pursues one of history’s most well-known serial killers, Jack the Ripper. Using a time machine, the two travel from the late 19th century to end up in modern day Manhattan. Once he arrives in New York, H.G. finds himself in awe of a world he never believed possible, but it’s not only the advancements of the age that catch his eye…the young and beautiful Jane Walker also captivates him.
Time after Time (March 5-26, 2017). Cast: Freddie Stroma, Josh Bowman, Nicole Ari Parker, Jennifer Ferrin, and Will Chase.
The Tick launches on August 25 on Amazon Prime Video and it looks and sounds different than the previous incarnations of the Tick.
The plot: In a workaday world where superheroes fly among us, mild-mannered accountant Arthur Everest (Griffin Newman) suspects The City is controlled by a fabled villain known as The Terror (Jackie Earle Haley), despite evidence of The Terror’s death 15 years ago. Arthur has a traumatic connection with The Terror, whose movements he has obsessively tracked since childhood. Arthur’s sister, Dot (Valorie Curry), is a paramedic who dotes on her brother but also provides a sibling’s tough love. The more he talks about super-villain super-conspiracies, the more she warns him to “keep it real.”
Fate soon brings Arthur together with a tall, verbally adroit muscleman with superpowers and a mysterious past: The Tick (Peter Serafinowicz). As they investigate the mystery surrounding The Terror, they draw attention from the electrifying enigma known as Miss Lint (Yara Martinez) and a hyper-violent vigilante named Overkill (Scott Speiser), confronting the complexity of the struggle between good and evil.
The Tick launches on Amazon Prime Video, August 25.

We caught up with stand-up comedian/actress Jill-Michele Meleán (Mad TV, Reno 911) at the closing night of the HollyShorts Film Festival, where her film, “This is Meg” was the closing night feature.

Jilly started in Theatre and toured with The Coconut Grove Playhouse (which is the Broadway of Miami). In 2000, she moved Los Angeles and needed to be on stage…

I enjoyed talking to the young actor, Alejandro who is quite a charmer and he told us, “I am the junior Latin lover, come see my movie.”

While we were talking about actors creating their own projects for online and cable, Rob Lowe told us “everybody does everything today and that’s really cool.”

Welch was a delight to listen to and a funny lady also. When asked about her role in the film, she said, she took it cause no one would believe that she would. Once she did her research on Eugenio Derbez and met him, she was on board.
Welch also told us about a comedy series (Date My Dad) she just worked on up in Vancouver, Canada. Where she gets to play a sexy Latina grandmother named, Rosa. Listen in to hear what she says when she’s not on the set.
