Ghostbusters First Trailer! Ain’t Afraid of No Ghosts!

Ghostbusters Day 16On March 2, a group of journalists and Ghostheads got to screen the first trailer of the new Ghostbusters (twice), and weren’t disappointed. We even watched it twice and sat for a Q&A with directors Ivan Reitman (Ghostbusters 1 & 2), Paul Feig (the new Ghostbusters, as well as Bridesmaids, Heat, Spy, and more), and writer Katie Dippold.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot aka WTF The Movie

Jesus Figueroa

Jesus Figueroa

While watching Whiskey Tango Foxtrot I found myself reminiscing of the 1970 MASH movie, and that’s a good thing. The movie flowed nicely for me; it kept me engaged.Kim Barker author

My colleague Jesus Figueroa of Thisfunktional did a great interview for us with Kim Barker author of The Taliban Shuffle: Strange Days in Afghanistan and Pakistan, the book the movie is based on. Baker spoke about the liberties that Hollywood takes in telling stories based on reality; she shared more about her time in a war zone and being back in the U.S.A.

Audio-Button-200Tina Fey is very good in this role and so were the other actors. And as Kim Barker said, we know how tricky it can be when something is based on true stories.

The film also stars Margot Robbie, Martin Freeman, Alfred Molina, Billy Bob Thornton, Christopher Abbott, Josh Charles, and Cherry Jones. Directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa. Now listen in on Jesus’ conversation with Kim. — A.O.

Zootopia, Meet the Real Life Animals That Inspired the Film

ZOOTOPIAWe got a chance to hang out at the Wildlife Learning Center in Sylmar, California, the place Disney animators visited to get their inspiration for some of Zootopia’s wild characters, including the world-famous Lola, the two-toed sloth (her real-life inspiration was sleeping during our visit).

Bald Eagle

We spoke to Jannine Chamorro about her work with the animals at the center; she told us the sloths and her favorite animals to watch and interact with. We talked a bit about the film Zootopia and her thoughts about it.

From the creators of Frozen and Big Hero 6 comes, Disney’s Zootopia, where we find the modern mammal metropolis of Zootopia, a city like no other. Comprised of habitat neighborhoods like ritzy Sahara Square and frigid Tundratown, it’s a melting pot where animals from every environment live together—a place where no matter what you are, from the biggest elephant to the smallest shrew, you can be anything.

Zootopia is a fun film— funny with an interesting twist. It also has a wonderful message: don’t let others keep you down, keep going forward, follow your dreams. Plus I think Judy Hopps may be small, but she kicks ASS!

Audio-Button-200The Wildlife Learning Center rescues wildlife and educates the public about the environment through onsite and outreach programs. Please go to their site and learn more about the wonderful work they do. And it’s a great outing for the family. Now you can listen in on our conversation.

My Monday morning started with a visit with Hermann J. Binek, former Secret Service agent for the German government. He’s been shot and injured during his time and now he’s a security expert.

He gave us a few pointers on techniques that someone like him would use to protect his clients.

How to over power and hold someone in place

How to over power

With the release of London has Fallen coming up, we got to have a little fun with Binek and the comedic social influencers Mexicangueys (Jairo Orozco and Bryan Rojo) that helped with the action demos.

London Has Fallen is a thriller full of action! Gerard Butler was fun to watch. He doesn’t hold back, not even in the language he uses; a friend describes it as a potty mouth. It left me feeling uneasy, because of all the terrorism going on in parts of the world.

The film also stars Morgan Freeman, Angela Bassett, Aaron Eckhart, Alon Aboutboul, Waleed Zuaiter, Melissa Leo and is directed by Babak Najafi.

Congratulations to All the Winners of the 88th Annual Academy Awards!

Even though I didn’t watch the Oscars past Chris Rock’s opening monologue, I’m Happy for the three wins for The Revenant and especially for its director, Alejandro González Iñárritu for his second best director award. Emmanuel Lubezki for cinematography, and Leonardo DiCaprio for Best Actor. Check out our previous post here.

The movie Spotlight winning Best picture was sweet. I had the great pleasure of speaking to writer Josh Singer, director Tom McCarthy, and actor Brian Darcy James. But the highlight for me was, talking to the actual journalists who broke the Boston Globe priest story in 2002, Mike Rezendes, Ben Bradlee Jr., Walter Robinson, and Sacha Pfeiffer. Listen in on our conversation here.

Triple 9 shows the gray areas between the law and crime; it is full of intense action and some really good performances. We got to catch up with a few of the actors and the director, who told us about heir approach to their characters.

Clifton Collins Jr.

Clifton Collins Jr.

Clifton Collins Jr., who is a true chameleon, he can play anything, good, bad, nerd and more; gave us a very raw and honest talk. Anthony Mackie and Chiwetel Ejiofor had us laughing and gave us a great interview. Norman Reedus and Aaron Paul were also great to talk to.

Now listen in and enjoy the seriousness and the laughter we had during our conversations. And check out the film synopsis below:

Bullets fly on the Atlanta freeway as armed thieves make their getaway following a bank robbery in broad daylight. Unhappy with the results, ruthless gangster Irina Vlaslov (Kate Winslet) orders the men to pull off another job. One member of the team is Marcus Belmont (Anthony Mackie), a crooked cop who gets saddled with Chris Allen (Casey Affleck), his new but incorruptible police partner. As Belmont and his cohorts lay the groundwork for the heist, they come up with a devious plan to use Allen as their pawn. — A.O.
