Risen, at first thought, it is a faith-based film; then you realize it’s really a detective story just set in the time of Christ. So, if you are familiar with the biblical stories you’ll probably enjoy it and I think even if you aren’t familiar, it’s a good story. Joseph Fiennes is Clavius, a character comprised of stories told about Roman soldiers of that time.
Risen, is the epic biblical story of the resurrection, as told through the eyes of a non-believer. Clavius, a powerful Roman military tribune, and his aide, Lucius (Tom Felton), are tasked with solving the mystery of what happened to Yeshua’s (Jesus) body in the weeks following the crucifixion, in order to disprove the rumors of a risen Messiah and prevent an uprising in Jerusalem.
Yeshua (Jesus) who is played by Cliff Curtis is perfectly cast in this role. There was some really good casting in this film and we spoke to the producers about it. Risen is directed by Kevin Reynolds, who co-wrote the screenplay with Paul Aiello. The film was shot in Malta and Spain, and will be in theaters February 19.
