A Romantic Comedy, An Over the Top Telenovela and A Thriller in Theaters
A few more film choices in theaters now. Starting with a first for Mexico, releasing the movie A La Mala at home and in the U.S.A. on the same day.
A La Mala is about aspiring actress Maria Laura ‘Mala’ Medina (Aislinn Derbez) whose best friend begs her to flirt with her boyfriend to test his fidelity. And a lucrative new career adventure ensues.

The actors had a great time on set and even love blossomed between the two lead actors (Derbez and Ochmann). Plus there’s a funny cameo between Derbez and her dad, actor Eugenio Derbez.
I liked the characters and found the storyline interesting and well acted. All in all, a fun film to watch.
Directed by Pitipol Ybarra and starring Mauricio Ochmann, Aurora Papile, Luis Arrieta, Daniela Schmidt, and Juan Diego Covarrubias.

Luis Guzmán, Juan Pablo Gamboa, Edy Ganem, Michael Steger and Dyana Ortelli
Ana Maria in Novela Land is an over the top comedy and fantasy, with Edy Ganem (Devious Maids) in the lead as Ana Maria. The film also stars Elizabeth Peña in one of her last roles, Luis Guzmán, Sung Kang, Michael Steger, Juan Pablo Gamboa, Jessica Camacho, Nestor Serrano, Pepe Serna, Dyana Ortelli, and Mercedes Mason. Directed by Georgina Garcia Riedel.
In Everly, Salma Hayek is leading this action packed thriller as a “femme fatale unleashing the ultimate vengeance against a sadistic mob boss and his army of assassins.” It’s always fun and campy to watch Hayek in action films. Also starring Togo Igawa, Hiroyuki Watanabe, Laura Cepeda, and Akie Kotabe. And directed by Joe Lynch.
