Selena Gomez is One of the “Spring Breakers” in the Highly Buzzed and Strangely Dark Indie Premiering (partly) on Friday

It was a hit at SXSW, and it may very well be the grown-up hit that Selena Gomez so richly deserves. And it’s opening this Friday in L.A. and New York, with a wider release across the country a week later. And even two out of three critics seem to like it, with oddly backhanded compliments like, “Spring Breakers is a mainstream art film that is ludicrous amounts of fun, even if the plot is absolutely preposterous and downright silly,” and, “If Michael Mann was to take a lot of hallucinogenics and shoot a Girls Gone Wild video, it might look something like this.” Or, to put it another way (as one reviewer did), “An almost indescribably weird little movie.” Judge for yourself–or try to–in this short clip that features Selena, her costars, and a nearly unrecognizable James Franco
