I enjoy quirky films, some can turn out fantastic and some not. Suburbicon, worked for me most of the time, it’s an interesting juxtaposion of two stories taking place in a neighborhood of the late 1950s.
It’s well made and has some really good performances by the young Noah Jupe and Oscar Isaac. Directed by George Clooney who also wrote it with Ethan Coen, Joel Coen, and Grant Heslov.
The plot: Suburbicon is a peaceful, idyllic, suburban community with affordable homes and manicured lawns—the perfect place to raise a family, and in the summer of 1959, the Lodge family is doing just that. But the tranquil surface masks a disturbing reality, as husband and father Gardner Lodge (Matt Damon) must navigate the town’s dark underbelly of betrayal, deceit and violence.
Starring Julianne Moore, Tony Espinosa, Glenn Fleshler, Jack Conley, Gary Basaraba, and Alex Hassell.
I felt it suffered a little in the last 30mns but it still was an entertaining movie. Not a movie for everyone but fans of the Coen brothers and George Clooney directing will enjoy it.
Suburbicon is in theaters October 27.
