Nadine Velazquez takes “Flight” with Denzel

There’s already plenty of Oscar buzz flying around Flight, the new drama starring Denzel Washington as an airline pilot who saves his plane in an impossibly brave maneuver, and quickly becomes the victim of the company and the media. There are some powerhouse performances here, not just from Denzel but from the likes of Don Cheadle (Iron Man 2), John Goodman (Treme), and Nadine Velazquez.

Nadine has had a fast and fascinating career trajectory so far. After a few appearances in various hour-longs, she was cast in–of all things–My Name is Earl, the bizarre semi-cult sitcom on NBC. When Earl went away, she did a few one-offs and found herself in The League on FX as often as not–another sitcom–then in an arc on the CW’s Hart of Dixie…until Flight came along, and threatens to take off.

Nadine sat down for a few quick comments about Flight and Denzel Washington. Take a look…

…and clearly she’s just getting started. Nadine has two other movies already coming up: Snitch, the next action-adventure from Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, is set for a February 22 release, and she’s part of Aztec Warrior, the slightly crazy action picture from the director of Black Dynamite that has too many Latino actors to count, also coming in 2013.

For now, however, she’s playing Denzel’s chief flight attendant and love interest in one of the more interesting movies of the winter season. It opens nationwide Friday Oct. 9.

Actress, director, writer, and producer Isabel Cueva Terrifies in “American Horror House” on SyFy

Isabel Cueva is a pretty amazing Latina. You’d think simply being one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood would be enough, but she’s already gone much farther than that: she has produced a short, In the Name of Freedom, that was acquired by Global Distribution and premiered nationwide on AT&T U-Verse and Direct TV’s Shorts HD Channel on Memorial Day; she’s received the Alma and Cine Golden Eagle awards; she’s worked with the likes of Danny Trejo on American Flyer, scheduled to air on Showtime, and Oscar nominee Sally Kirkland and horror king Tony Toddy on Jack the Reaper (now available on DVD). What’s more, she’s a regular on the web series Hollywood Angel, and has recently been attached as the lead in the Indie feature called Shallow Water. And then there’s the future: major roles in Hector Echavarria’s Duel of Legends and Aztec Warrior, where she plays alongside a whole crowd of Latino stars, from Luis Guzmán to Eugenio Derbez to Nadine Velazquez (The League, Hart of Dixie).

It hasn’t even got a title yet–they’re still calling it The Rob Schneider Comedy–but it’s been on the pilot-show radar for months. Now, after months of dithering at two pilots, CBS has ordered the three-camera sitcom as a midseason replacement.
