The low-key comedy-drama starring Luis Antonio Ramos and Alexandra Castillo is the casualty of the fall season after only two episodes.
You’d think it would have given it a decent chance to grow, but…not so much. After only two episodes, ABC has cancelled Lucky 7, the interwoven stories of the folks at a convenience store who won a huge lottery.
Lucky 7 premiered on ABC on the same night as Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which premiered with the best ratings of the season. But on the same night, Lucky 7 gathered the worst ratings of the season–the worst, in fact, of any fall drama in ABC history. And then in the second week, both shows slipped: S.H.I.E.L.D. by 34 percent (leaving it still strong because it started so high), and Lucky 7 by an awesome 46%. That made it the worse average of any show on ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox. Worse than most CW shows, even. And the word came down just days later.
It was a longshot from the outset (rather like winning the lottery). The show was barely promoted; its lead-in was another brand new show, Trophy Wife, and there were no major stars in the cast to attract an existing ‘base.’ So it may have been inevitable, but it still happened very fast: only two episodes made it to air.
Luis Antonio Ramos, one of the nicest guys in the world, is going to have to find another place to play the family man he’s always wanted to play. And Alexandra Castillo, who played his wife, will be looking for work as well. Starting next Tuesday at 10P, ABC will air repeats of Scandal with Guillermo Díaz in Lucky 7’s place. There are no immediate plans to air the remaining episodes of the cancelled show.
